BERET KODJIA AT BROOKLYN MUSEUM – AFRICA FASHION POP UP STORE BY ALÀRA LAGOS
The beret KODJIA enters the Brooklyn Museum in New York (USA) in the ALÀRA pop-up store, from June 23 to October 22, 2023.
This iconic concept store, originally based in Lagos (Nigeria), supports the Africa Fashion at the Museum exhibition, which showcases fashion from the African continent and its diaspora. First presented at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (England), this exhibition offers an overview of design and craftsmanship from across the African continent. It explores several themes, including the African Cultural Renaissance and the essential role of fabric manufacture, and highlights key figures in the continent’s history. It provides a fascinating and essential context for presenting a new generation of designers who are redefining and interpreting craft techniques in their own way.
Africa Fashion now travels internationally to spread its message around the world.
“The beret KODJIA is a symbol of struggle and self-determination. I created this accessory to pay tribute to the history and struggle led by our great African and Afro-descendant leaders, but also to highlight the cultural heritage of our continent. It’s an honor to be able to present this piece as part of the Africa Fashion exhibition.” – Steeven Kodjia, Creative Director
